Hell Forged Books is the author-owned home of Christopher Kilgore's dark fiction — built on brutal systems, gothic horror, and worlds that reflect the coldness of reality rather than the comfort of lies.
The Author
Christopher Kilgore.
My stories seek to embrace the harshness of a realistic world. Victory is determined through strength, logic, preparation, and deception, never fairytale bullshit. Power has structure, violence has institutions, and the line between good and evil is merely a matter of perspective.
Most dark fiction stops at atmosphere — a grim coat of paint over a familiar story. I'm interested in what's underneath: the economics of cruelty, the politics of survival, the way a society organizes its monsters and calls it order. Give me a world with working machinery, and I'll show you where the horror actually lives.
My first novel, Jason Teufel, was built on a single idea — that history is written by the victors, and the war between Heaven and Hell might be the most rewritten story of all. More than a decade later, Empire of Blood takes that same idea underground and builds an entire civilization on top of it.
No incorruptible heroes. No safe monsters. Just various shades of gray.
The Standard

Hell Forged Books is author-owned. No committee, no softening of ideas, no sanding the teeth off the work to make it easier for the faint of heart. Every project is built to the same standard: sharp writing, serious design, deep worldbuilding, and a dark identity that's difficult to mistake.
I never promise a happy ending or heroes of pure morality. Evil often wins. Power has a cost, survival has a price, but the systems that grind people down are where the real horror lies… after all, once you step back, you may start to realize that while the story is fiction, the oppressive systems it's built on are very real indeed.
The Approach

If the world were real, how would things really be? What would someone raised in it really be like? What would you do if it were you standing there in the scene?
